Historically, this region has been paramount to the development of the gas and oil industry and much of that history remains here to be seen.  Prior the oil boom, Native Americans also utilized the natural oil deposits and introduced them to settlers.  Much of their history is here to be seen as well! Today, the region is central to the area’s rails-to-trails and many come to enjoy time on the Allegheny River.
